“Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up the windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life”
Sidney Sheldon.
Our Library is a bustling hub located in the very centre of the school. It is a colourful space, much-loved by pupils, parents and staff with it’s wide range of books including classics, picture, dyslexia friendly, bilingual, audio, magazines and graphic novels. Our ultimate aim is to enable every child to develop a lifelong love of books and reading.
Pre-Nursery to Year 6 enjoy a Library lesson every week, allowing children the opportunity to relax and immerse themselves in a book during the busy school day. Children are particularly encouraged to share and discuss books, whether it be with a peer or an adult.
Our amazing Librarian, Catherine Mentzel, brings her passion for books and reading to every age group. Our Early Years and Pre-Prep children are transfixed by her wonderful story-telling and the children in our Prep department will often beg her to regale them with a favourite tale. Mrs Mentzel takes the time to get to know every child’s reading habits, steering them towards new literary experiences and also listening to their thoughts on what new titles should be added to the shelves.
Borrowing and returning books is an easy process, helped by our Year 6 Pupil Librarians, who are integral to the day-to-day running of the Library.
Where possible we have visits from authors and illustrators and we encourage the children to write to their favourite authors. World Book Day is celebrated each year and we have an annual bookmark design competition, all in addition to many other reading-related activities throughout the school year.
We want our children to read for pleasure and enjoy all of the benefits it brings!
