The Reception year builds on the foundations laid down in the Nursery, enabling children to continue to gain confidence in their individual abilities, socialise easily with their peers and, above all, enjoy the process of learning.
Reception is made up of children moving up from The Manor’s Nursery as well as new children joining The Manor from other Pre-Schools and Nurseries. Much care and thought is given to ensure all the children integrate to form well balanced classes with plenty of opportunities for the children to also play across Reception.
Each class has a qualified teacher and teaching assistant who create a friendly, family atmosphere where the children feel relaxed and ready to learn. Our excellent ratios allow teachers to be highly flexible in their approach, supporting or challenging children according to their individual needs and level of confidence. We believe variety is essential to retaining children’s attention and we use a mixture of whole-class, small group and individual teaching. As the year progresses the children are prepared for the slightly more formal teaching that they will encounter in Year 1.
The children are offered specialist sessions including Music, Library time, PE, Little Languages and Forest School and will have their first experience of school swimming lessons in a block during the Spring or Summer Term. There may be an occasional educational visit arranged to enhance a topic or theme and we also welcome different visitors and speakers into school to add variety to the children’s learning.
The Extra-Curricular programme starts with a few clubs in Reception which children are invited to sign up for once they are settled.
