Starting School Advice

Starting school is an exciting time for both young children and their parents but we are aware that it can also be a daunting experience. With a little preparation and encouragement most children settle easily at school and are ready to enjoy the wealth of opportunities to discover and learn.

Every child is unique and they all react differently to starting school. At The Manor we pride ourselves on treating each child as an individual and will support them in this important transition. There is always help and plenty of reassurance at hand for parents too!

What is most important is that children and parents have fun together in those early months and years of their education; sharing stories and experiences, singing songs, playing with others and talking about anything and everything in the world around them.

As well as plenty of websites covering this topic and various story books you can purchase to prepare your child, Mrs Pippa McConnell (Head of Pre-Prep) delivers a Starting School Talk for new families during the Summer Term. This is an opportunity to reassure parents, help prepare families, share the importance of play and offer an overview of the Early Years Curriculum.

Also during the Summer Term, children joining Reception are invited to a Stay and Play session as well as our Move Up Morning in early July, and then in early September we offer a Come and Explore visit.  All of these touch points meant that by the time your child starts at The Manor, it will already feel familiar and comfortable.

We very much hope that you will choose The Manor and that we’re looking forward to meeting you!
